Nooni Apple Water Blending Lip Mask

It's Changed by Lonnie Smith
I didn't know I needed a lip mask until I got into Korean cosmetics and skincare. All my life I had thought that using a lip balm, drinking water, not licking my lips and not peeling any dry skin from them would have me covered but, no the internets showed me that I was not doing enough. Despite owning enough lip balm to set me up for the rest of my life early adult life, I found myself mulling over all the possibilities a lip mask could give to me ...
  • smoother lips
  • non-dry lips
  • super lips
The longer I mulled, the more my need for this lip mask grew. It would go where no lip balm had gone before. It would complete all my lips needs in one handy swipe from its miraculous formula. Fate had brought "Nooni Water Blending Lip Mask" to my attention and thus it was in my duty and my lips best interest to not let it pass me by.

... Granted, it passed me by on two separate occasions as I huffed and puffed over shipping time and the price but, finally on the third time it came in stock - I put my quibbling aside and purchased it.

So how did it do and was it the answer to all my watery lip dreams?
To put it lightly Nooni Water Blending Lip Mask is a trumped-up and glorified lip balm and thus I am naturally inclined to like it. I was afraid that it would have a jelly gooey alien like plasma consistency that would be difficult to apply and leave on in the day let alone overnight yet, thankfully reality was much more tolerable than my wild imagination.
Nooni Water Blending Lip Mask has a smooth consistency that is semi-thick. The mask comes with a handy spatula which scoops up and applies the product well if you don't like using your fingers. This mask does have an apple-like scent but it's very light and reminds me of apple candy rather than real juicy apples. One of the more thrilling claims for this mask besides chemically exfoliating and moisturising one's lips - is that it can be used under or before liquid lipsticks to improve the look, feel and application of products. I tried it out and it works but it's not any different to using a lip serum I already have. In fact, I'd go as so far to say that they are pretty similar.
Is it a life-changing product? Maybe for some but, not for me. Do I like it? Yes. Would I buy it again? Perhaps. This lip mask is good but, not spectacular.

However, I think it's important to say - most reviews I've seen have been very positive so it seems to be truly miraculous for some - Lushalot review, Amazon reviews. Maybe its because I have a lip serum that has a similar consistency which explains why I'm not so impressed ...
Lip Mask and Lip Serum
Nooni Apple Water Blending lip mask and Dr. Organic Virgin Coconut Oil Lip Serum both have a very similar consistency. Both are semi-thick balms that are smooth and easy to blend into the skin. They both moisturise well and can be used under or over, even the driest liquid lipstick to give a more comfortable feel. Dr. Organic is more portable and less fussy to apply, whilst Nooni's little spatula application gives a more spa-like luxurious feel to the process but is a tad cumbersome. Both give a glossy appearance to the lips and are nourishing.
Applying Nooni
From bare slightly stained lips to a full application of Nooni. The first day I received this product I put this straight to work and was very happy with the glossy feel and look. Over time it did create build up at the corners of my mouth like how most thicker lip gloss does but, meh nothing is perfect.
Nooni and a Liquid Lipstick + Dr. Organic Serum
To see if Nooni would work with a liquid lipstick, I decided to try it out with one of the driest liquid lipstick formulas known to my lips - LA splash! The LA Splash formula I've tried is very matte, dry and very hard to remove. I have used this before with a lip balm which helped me last a whole day wearing it so I knew it wouldn't crumble to pieces when used with an emollient balm. See a good review by Chelsea March - here which made me want to try out Nymph Adora.
The process
Nooni as a base: I found that the liquid lipstick took a very long time to dry when using Nooni as a base but when it did it looked lighter and softer than it does normally and slightly pilled (balled up).
Applying Nooni then wiping it off: Nymph Adora applied smoother, it felt less dry and it gave a similar matte finish, to when using the liquid lipstick on its own.
Applying the lip serum on top of Nymph Adora: The effect was similar to using Nooni underneath but, the liquid lipstick never seemed like it would dry and the colour was pinker
Using the serum underneath (not pictured): Worked similarly to using Nooni as a base but there was more pilling.
The results: Whilst I still feel like both products are similar - Nooni does work better as a base for one of the driest matte liquid lipsticks I have. Thus, if you want some added protection or smoother application and a softer look I'd opt for the mask. Just don't use too much of either product or else you'll end up with a glossy lip rather than a matte one.
Using Nooni Apple Water Blending mask once again on its own after my experiment
Last thoughts: It's good as a lip balm and great as a base. Breezing through the ingredients I think if you don't like to use animal by-products (lanolin) then opt for Nooni if you don't mind then Dr. Organic is good too - link to reviews.
