The first I heard of Divergent a little while back was about the film, I had no idea that it was actually a book. I loved the story for the film so as soon as I heard about the books I knew I wanted to read them. It seemed like the kind of thing I'd rather read than watch, if anyone knows what I mean? I've heard so much about it in the blogosphere, about how good the book is but I didn't know much about it before I read it. I wasn't sure what to expect so I just went straight into it, finishing it within a couple of days!
The Blurb:
In a society divided into factions all are forced to choose where they belong. And the choice Beatrice Prior makes shocks everyone, including herself. During extreme initiation tests, Tris must determine who her friends are and whether she can trust the man who both threatens and protects her. Because Tris has a deadly secret. One that save those she loves... or destroy her.
I really can't say more about what it's about other than what has already been said otherwise it would ruin it for you. What I can say is that I absolutely loved this book, it's now up there with my top favourites. It doesn't start off slowly, which I quite liked, you are really thrown into the story/situation and you learn a lot about people very quickly. I hate it when books have chapters and chapters of waffle at the start of books! I really like the main character, Tris, especially the relationships she has with the people around her. Character wise there isn't anyone that I particularly don't like at the moment either which is great as someone usually gets on my nerves!
I'm really happy there is a second and third book because it does seem like the kind of story that couldn't be condensed down into 500 pages. It means you see the characters experience more emotion and you get a lot more detail as well which is always good. I wouldn't say it is really fast paced but it certainly isn't a slow book, it's slow enough for you to be able to keep up with what's going on and you can work out who is who very quickly.
I'm not sure really what else to say without ruining it for you! Overall I really would recommend this book and I think everyone should read the trilogy, I'm already patiently waiting to order the next book.
Have you read Divergent and did you like it? Or have you seen film, again did you like it?
Thanks for reading,
