We are excited about the Estate Jewelry Sale in the store next week! We'll have vintage, antique and contemporary jewels for sale in our store - for one day only!
Sometimes estate jewelry is confused with antique jewelry. How do they differ? The simplest definition of estate jewelry is that has been previously owned. Antique jewelry, however, has to be at least 100 years old. So, we will have beautiful contemporary pieces in the sale, as well.
Jewelry can be a timeline of sorts. Jewelry styles develop and evolve. Distinctive styles become associated with each era. Viewing jewelry from many different eras is like a walk through time.
- Georgian Era (1714-1837) jewelry designs were often nature inspired and usually include precious gemstones.
- Early Victorian Era (1837-1855) jewelry was "romantic" - intricate and delicate. Lockets and brooches were popular. Colored gemstones were widely used.
- Late Victorian Era (1855-1900) jewelry designs became more aesthetic. Diamonds and bright gemstones were used to create star and crescent designs.
- Edwardian Era (1901-1915) jewelry designs reflected the spirit of the times. It was a time of excess. The designs were elaborate and featured diamonds, emeralds and rubies.
- Art Nouveau Era (1895-1915) jewelry is distinctive in its use of curves and natural designs like butterflies and flowers.
- Art Deco Era1915-1935) jewelry designs were more abstract and geometric.
- Retro Era (1945-1960) jewelry designs were inspired by Hollywood - big, bright, bold and colorful.
