But then every once in a long while I hear about a product that I think is clever and even though it might have a certain "ick" factor to it, is something I would want to know about so figure some of you might too!
VagiSense - $17 - is an easy to use and interpret over-the-counter vaginal infection screening test to help differentiate between a possible yeast infection and a bacterial/parasitic infection.
I never actually realized that there's more then one type of infection until I had what I thought was a yeast infection and bought the remedy at the drugstore, had it not work and went to the doctor only to find out that it was bacterial - there are three common types of vaginal infections: bacterial vaginosis, yeast infections, and trichomoniasis - they all have similar symptoms (itching, burning, an unpleasant odour, excessive vaginal discharge) but each requires a different treatment.
My experience is not uncommon - in fact studies show that 66% of women who self-diagnosed a vaginal yeast infection were wrong, as the most frequent cause of abnormal vaginal symptoms is, in fact, bacterial vaginosis which has to be treated with prescription medication. If I had used VagiSense, I would have known right away that it wasn't a yeast infection and could have saved myself some time, treated it correctly and gotten relief quicker!
